A photo of a very cool clock chime with robot puppets.

Shy Clock Chimes: Miyazaki airport has the most amazing clock chime in the whole world! The only problem is, as you can see in the above photo was that I was standing quite far away from it to get a close up photo of it.

The clock chime has these robotic puppets acting out a scene of Japanese folk law, complete with singing and musical accompaniment. The funny thing is that it doesn't chime every hour (so we were told). One day I hope to wait there with a video camera and video it, but knowing Japan they'll probably have replaced it with something else by next time I go there!

In Japan you can often find good restaurants in airports and sometimes the prices are good (apart from the McDonald's at Kanku, but that's another story). Miyazaki airport is no exception and we had nice meal of Okonomi-yaki (a Japanese dish a little like pancakes, but it is savoury and has cabbage and meat in it) at a restaurant which overlooks the runway.

Another thing about Japanese airports (domestic) is all of the great shops that you can find in them. Selling all those last minute local souvenirs you could ever want to buy. Just perfect when you've had a busy business trip and you want grab some souvenirs for the folks back home!

After looking at the airport and before catching bus back to Kobayashi, we went to the pub. At the pub I saw a couple of Yanqui (see definition on Day 4) girls wearing Kimonos and drinking beer in a most unladylike manner! I thought it was strange that they were wearing Kimonos, after I realised that it was "adults day" and they were probably twenty year olds who had just officially become adults.
